Vincent and I ran into one another on my way to my aunt's house. I was aware that I was in his neighborhood, but what were the chances that we'd run into one another on a random Sunday afternoon. I had decided not to go straight home after Target and instead join my mother in visiting my recovering aunt. As we went to turn the corner, I noticed a familiar maroon car. I kept looking back and the driver idled at the stop sign long enough to confirm it was him. We were both in shock. Naturally, I told my mother that I'd catch up and I went over to see him. He had the boys in the back seat (unbuckled) and they just happened to be heading to the store -randomly. We chatted and that was that...
So I thought.
That night, after I began to settle in bed, I noticed a call from Vincent. I called him back and he mentioned our run in earlier and suggested it was fate. I didn't think so. Coincidence, I said. Somehow, while telling him about the jokes at my aunt's I let it slip about Leron in the joke. Vincent asked me to back up and that became the beginning of a heartbreaking convo.
In the end, he accepted it and his role in our past relationship's demise. He, however, had not moved on and was shocked that I did. He said he still loves me and got a little more emotional than I ever expected. Ever. I told him that next time remember:actions speak louder than words. I laid it all out to him and sang the good woman blues. Called him out on shortcomings in the past when he knew he could have done better.
He heard me, and he finally woke up and said that next time he won't hesitate. Do you know the amount of times I 've told him this but it takes another man to take your place before you catch on, huh? If you don't treat your woman like gold then another man will. I told him that the next woman would be lucky if he didn't turn to holding back and taking her for granted because after all, he is a great guy. He said, "Yea, and it may just be you."
