Last week, I took to the task of cleaning out my room. It began when my younger brother knocked on my door and offered to pay me weekly to use my treadmill. Now, I could have taken the young lad's cash, but alas, I have a soul. I gave him conditions. He can use it for free as long as he keeps it in the living room and not in the basement, as he had proposed. This way, when I feel like ignoring my lack of motivation and decide to get on the thing, I can.
Wiping sweat and brow, after not going with his plan to think about how to move it and then do it, we finally got it out of the door.It took us about an hour and a half to move this deceptively light looking machine out of the room. After a while, I couldn't even remember how I got it in there in the first place. It became a repetitive question from his mouth. We should have planned it out first and saved more time, but he already knows he was right, lol. Once it was out of the door, it took less than five minutes and it falling on my toe, to get it to the living room. Labor done!
If you can only imagine the space in my room! When I saw my lovely wooden floor, I was reminded of why I took to the task of pulling up my carpet two or three Christmas' ago. I had some sweeping and mopping to do and after I took broom to floor and mopped to a shine, the space was gorgeous. I had room to do pilates or dance and spin- whatever I wanted! I sat on my bed, admiring it for a little while, and then my bookcase caught the corner of my eye. It was a total mess! It has been since we moved in and has accumulated 15 years of books, magazines, random things- like a electric drill and a knife block. Oh, and a fallen curtain. I headed down to the kitchen to obtain a garbage bag because it was about time for me to throw some things away. So, off I went.
Going through my bookcase, I kept most of my books while throwing away paper and other garbage. Old textbooks that should have been returned had to go. I made a pile of books that didn't belong to me and returned them to their owners through out the house. I am a sentiment hording fool, but surprisingly I was able to part with a whole heavy bag of things. Some things were held on to for too long and it was good to see them go. Some of them needed to be let go in a deeper sense. I organized each shelf and by the time I was done, it was beautiful! No clutter. Pure delight on the eyes.
I then took to the task of organizing the bed's book case {where I store my Dvd's) and it's top shelf. Simply stunning. The other people in the house came by and remarked on how lovely that side of my room looked. The room is so much clearer and organized and of course, my mind was more free. Now, the only thing left to tackle is my dresser!
