I was talking to Joan on Monday and we began discussing the noticeable change in the air since the election of "Messiah" Obama. I love Obama, so don't get me wrong, but I told her that I am on a wait and see schedule. Of course we know that Obama wont be able to save America in a day or maybe even in his term. However, at this point, my main concern is that the man actually makes it past inauguration.... and the week after.
Meantime, I've noticed and mentioned to her that the Daily News seems to be more geared towards a positive spin on the news since Obama won. Prior to his election , I was bent on avoiding the newspaper because of the countless murders that made headlines and the sick and despicable acts by our society. Out of disgust, I was ready to move out of NY because the news was quite overwhelming. I chose the more rational option and switched to the NY Times in order to not be paranoid or disturbed by the potential psychopathic strangers on the streets. Yet, I still checked DailyNews.com. Call it force of habit or conditioning. Yes, I've been conditioned to look directly for the evil. Now, ever since the election when random New Yorkers made eye contact and even hugged one another, it seems as if the DN has changes their target and flooded its paper with less bias stories and sensationalized headlines. Believe me, I took immediate notice when it went from Hellish horrors to candy joy within five days. It seems like we're still on some euphoric high. What's more? A man has been cured of AIDS through a bone marrow transplant. Ahh.. the messiah...Sadly, I found myself going to DN's website even more in search of those grisly headlines( I've decided to stop). I wasn't doing it because I have this sadistic need to read about people's sufferings. No, I needed to what the hell was going on in New York and if I was going crazy.Have people stopped killing one another as often as they were two weeks ago? Really? Black people or minorities aren't terrorizing the city with the countless crimes anymore?? Really? Two weeks ago the paper would have had anyone convinced that NY is the devil's playground. Forget it being the playground... it was more intimate than that..Yes. Ny and the devil were violent lovers. Or maybe pure fuck buddies with no mercy or strings attached. Whatever, the city was painted as one of pure Hell and now it's OZ or some crap.
I mentioned the change in the news to Brando prior to my convo with Joan and I shared his response with her. He had me dying when he said it was because it was under Bush's administration and things couldn't possibly get worse. The most negative stories were being reported on a consistent basis which of course drives us to hate him more. There is often truth in jest. We all know that the media is great at manipulating the masses. Now that Obama's been elected they are trying to keep the news upbeat and positive which in turn gives the people more hope. I wish I could be a fly on the wall of that newspaper's headquarters because I really want to know if politics is playing a role in how the news is being fed to the people. Like, I know they sat down and said look.. we're going to print less of the usual and smother them with normalcy. I'm not naive so I know that this is the case, but it's just amazing how obvious it is becoming.. I'm glad that I am actually conscious and not swallowing the syrup like they'd like us Americans to do. The agenda is to sway us and build us up. If I was into conspiracies, I'd think it would be in an effort to maintain the great hope of the people and then as soon as things go slightly wrong they will try to sway New Yorkers to be Anti-Obama with a negative spin on everything. I don't honestly believe that a paper that kept minorities on the front lines, reporting on us like were uncontrollable imps, would all of a sudden stop just because.... Nah. I don't want to speak to soon and then be subjected to a flood of atrocious headlines tomorrow, but it seems as if they are laying in wait and it will be a while before the Daily rag starts printing the once usual madness of headlines, one after the other.(Knock on wood)
